Introducing the GenQuest AI Coach: Interview Answers Explained in Plain English
By Preeti Verma
Reading an answer to an interview question is not the same as understanding it. Many of us have memorised a definition and then frozen when the interviewer asked "why?". The GenQuest AI Coach is built for that moment. It explains a question in simple words, lets you ask as many follow-ups as you like and helps you turn the idea into something you can actually say.
What the AI Coach does
It explains in plain English. Open the coach on any question from our question banks, or from your own interview report, and you get an explanation written as if for a smart ten-year-old: a familiar analogy, the answer in simple words, a small example, the common trap and one line to remember. The aim is that the idea sticks, not that you can repeat a paragraph.
It answers follow-ups. If something still does not make sense, ask. The coach stays on the question you opened and on related interview concepts. You can also start a free-form chat about any interview topic.
It gives you a 30-second answer. Once you understand a question, the coach can write a model answer of about 70 to 90 words in natural spoken English, structured as a direct answer, a reason and a short example. You can read it, practise it and then say it in your own words.
It saves your history. Every conversation is kept, so you can return to a topic later. The AI Coach page lists your chats by date, lets you search, rename or delete them and continue where you stopped.
It stays on topic. The coach helps with interview preparation, whether technical, behavioural or HR. If a message is not about interviews, it says so and asks you to try an interview question instead.
Where to find it
- On any question in Resources, use the "Ask AI Coach" button.
- In an interview report, open a question and ask the coach how to improve your answer.
- Open the AI Coach page from the sidebar for a free-form chat and to see your history.
How to use it well
- Try first. Answer the question out loud before you open the coach, so you know what you missed.
- Ask why. Follow-ups like "Why does this go wrong with several threads?" are where the learning happens.
- Turn it into your words. Use the 30-second answer as a shape, not a script.
- Come back later. Re-ask the same question a week after and see if you can explain it without help.
Limits on the free plan
The free plan includes 10 AI Coach conversations and five 30-second answers. Everything you delete still counts towards your ten, so use them on topics you care about most. Pro gives unlimited chats and unlimited 30-second answers. If you buy a company sheet, the coach is unlimited on the questions in that sheet.
An example
Take "How does HashMap work internally?". The coach might compare a HashMap to a wall of lockers where the key decides the locker, explain what happens when two keys pick the same locker and finish with a one-line reminder. Then you might ask, "What happens when the wall gets full?" and get a plain answer about resizing. If you want a comparison with the thread-safe version, we also wrote HashMap vs ConcurrentHashMap explained simply.
A note on accuracy
The coach is an AI, so it can make mistakes. Treat it like a study partner: check anything that matters against documentation, and tell us if an answer looks wrong so we can improve it.
Try it
Sign in, open any question and press "Ask AI Coach". If you are preparing for a specific interview, pair it with a mock interview so you practise both understanding and speaking.
