Frequently asked questions
What is an ATS?
An applicant tracking system (ATS) is software that employers use to collect, sort and search job applications. Many companies use one, so a resume that is easy for software to read has a better chance of reaching a person.
How does this free ATS resume checker score my resume?
It reads your resume the way a scanner would and checks structure (clear sections and contact details), content (relevant skills and measurable results) and readability. You get an overall score, a score for each area, the skills it found, the skills that look missing for your field and specific fixes. It is an estimate to guide your edits, not a guarantee of how any one employer system will treat you.
Do I need to sign in, and is it really free?
It is free and needs no sign-in. To keep the tool fair for everyone there is a limit on how many checks one person can run per hour. Signing in gives you more, plus matching your resume to a specific job description.
Do you store my resume?
Not when you use this page without signing in. Your resume is read to work out the score and is not saved to an account.
What file types can I upload?
PDF and Word documents (DOCX or DOC). You can also paste your resume text instead. A text-based PDF works best; scanned images cannot be read.
What is a good ATS score?
Aim for 75 or above as a solid base. Then tailor the resume to each job by matching its keywords honestly, because a resume tuned to one job usually beats a generic high score.
